5 Tips to Prepare for Your Newborn Photography Session
Welcoming your precious baby into the world is such a magical experience, but those first few months go by in the blink of an eye. That’s what makes professional newborn photography Hills District so special. By capturing those first pure moments, we can help you preserve them into timeless portraits for life.
We know that preparing for your newborn session doesn’t come without its worries. That’s why we’re sharing our best tips to prepare you for a smooth, enjoyable and stress-free shoot for both you and your little one.
- Time Your Feed
If you want to get those adorable sleepy poses, make sure you get a big feed in just before getting to the studio. If it’s been longer than 40 minutes since their last feed, bring a top-up feed with you to help them drift back into a peaceful sleep.
- Dress for Convenience
Dress your baby in something that is easy to remove, like a simple onesie without a singlet. Neutral colours and soft fabrics highlight the delicate nature of newborn photography. Try to avoid outfits that need to be pulled over their heads, as this can disrupt their sleepy state.
- Pack Smart
Bring all the essentials: a capsule seat, dummies, bottles, diapers, a change of clothes, and anything else your baby might need for feeding and comfort. There will be plenty of time for feeding and cuddling throughout the session if needed.
- Keep Them Awake
If at all possible, try keeping your baby awake for about an hour or so before the session. This can help regulate their sleep cycle and increase the likelihood of them being sleepy during the photoshoot.
- Coordinate Siblings
If you plan on bringing your older kids with you, try practice sibling poses beforehand. Make sure your kids understand what they’ll be doing during the session to help them feel comfortable.
Bonus Tip:
Relax and Unwind
Feel free to arrive in comfy clothes or PJs! We have a spacious bathroom where you can change and get ready at your own pace. Just try to steer clear of busy patterns, fonts, and clashing colours.
